#001 What the heck is BeautyTech?

Beauty + Technology = BeautyTechđź’„đź’»

But wait, there’s a lil more….

Suppose I play word association with "beauty" and "tech. I think of ways that cosmetics or the aesthetics of beauty standards have been immersed in technological spaces. That is immediately where my mind goes. After thinking about the term more and researching, I think of personalization, usability, futurism, and digital transformation in the way we utilize everyday beauty (whether it is tangible use or conceptual).

According to leading ****SaaS artificial intelligence tech corporation Perfect Corp., Beauty Tech is an emerging new tech trend encompassing AI and AR-powered virtual try-on technologies and diagnostics to help beauty brands increase the speed of buyer decisions and customer engagement.

To most people familiar with this field, beauty technology involves things such as Smart beauty products like LED face masks or even Nail printers. Products like skin rejuvenating creams that focus on the cell turnover in our skin cycle speak to more of the biological technology side, while digital product try-ons through augmented and virtual reality speak more to the digital side.

While the MVPs for these products are different, they both speak to the core nature of beauty tech: Innovation at its core, creating a nuanced way to experience beauty.

According to authors and strategy and marketing experts Béatrice Collin and Marie Taillard in the book Digital Makeover: How L'Oréal put people first to build a Beauty Tech Powerhouse, beauty tech is a disruptive industry that is all about embracing nuance.

In regards to being a company that is equipped to be the beauty champion of the future, it proclaims that, in Essence, beauty technology is when beauty is enhanced by technology and digital capabilities; beauty that is responsible, sustainable, and natural based on the new green sciences that (our) laboratories are inventing; and finally, beauty that is diverse and inclusive, adapted to everyone's needs and expectations. They go on to talk about how when a beauty company becomes more tech and digital savvy, cloud, data, and artificial intelligence become handy to the augmentation of the experience for both employees and consumers.

SO WHY IS BEAUTY TECH FOR ME?
